iPad Games They’d Love To See

Spotted on CrunchGear.com:

From the web site:

Planetfall – One of the original Infocom classics. Listen: the iPad has a usable keyboard and can support external keyboards. Why not slap together an Infocom pack for $2 and sell some imagination to these whippersnappers. Who’s with me?”

Not bad, at least it’s good to see some people interested in seeing classic IF on the new device. Of course, it would have made sense to mention the fact that IF already exists on the iPhone platform (see iPhone Frotz) with an inexhaustable supply of excellent pieces, but I’m okay with that.

I’d *totally* like to see the entire Infocom collection on my iPad as soon as it hits my doorstep.

You know, I’d like to see a game called Vespers 3D on the iPad… Any chance?

I’d love to see that, too. In a nutshell: doubtful, given the graphical complexity of the game. I talked about it a bit on a previous post when iTGE was announced (TGE for the iPhone), and most of that still applies. But perhaps once the game is done (seriously, it might actually be done someday) I can take another look…

Thanks for the link to the other post. I hadn’t seen that.

I do hope that–once the game is complete–you discover that porting it to the iPod isn’t *too* difficult. I can’t help but think that you might be able to bring a decent revenue with iPad/iPhone versions (of course, you could also get lost in the glut of the AppStore…). I have a feeling–and nothing but a feeling–that Vespers 3D occupies a place in the Venn diagram of gaming that could do very well on the iPhone.

Anyway, march on. Looking forward to the next update on Vespers development, as always.

Thanks for the encouragement. I don’t have any experience with iTGE, but my suspicion is that porting it over shouldn’t be terribly difficult. The real problem lies in the complexity of the models and textures we’re using. If the memory and graphics capabilities are up to snuff, then maybe–but I’m not terribly hopeful. That would mean a lot of reworking of the models. We’ll see!
